Sensitive Ecosystems Inventory Mapping (SEI)
Taara Environmental has recently completed over 15,000ha of SEI mapping in the Fraser Valley, including 6,700ha on Sumas Mountain for the City of Abbotsford and Fraser Valley Conservancy, 6,500ha of the Deroche to Harrison Mills corridor on the north side of the Fraser River for the Fraser Valley Conservancy and the Fraser Valley Regional District, and 1,000ha of southwestern Mission for the District of Mission and Fraser Valley Conservancy.
Nature Conservancy of Canada Baseline Inventory and Management
Plan
 Taara Environmental was recently contracted
to write a baseline inventory and management plan for the 380 acre Daphne Ogilvie Nature Reserve near Clinton BC. Home to over 90 species of birds and numerous species (such as Western Toad - photo) and ecosystems at risk, this project will inventory and map the reserve and help guide the NCC in future management options.
Sensitive Habitat Inventory
Mapping (SHIM)

Environmental has recently completed detailed mapping
of much of the City of Abbotsford's Environmental Development
Permit Area. Since 2005 staff have been mapping watercourses, wetlands,
and ponds throughout several thousand hectares of McKee Peak, Sumas Mountain, Vedder Mountain and various urban green areas. Mapping includes detailed measurements
and descriptions of watercourses, fish presence, and
rare species occurrences. To date, over 400km of creeks
and streams, 100 hectares of wetlands, and about 1,500
occurrences of rare and endangered species have been
mapped.
We have completed a variety of other SHIM projects throughout BC and Nunavut that have been used to by clients to determine habitat compensation for mine proposals, as well as projects in BC to model critical Pacific Watershrew habitat for a freeway expansion, determine riparian setbacks, delineate and classify wetlands, and to map and describe previously unmapped areas. Combined, these projects assessed over 200km of watercourses and hundreds of wetlands. Clients included Rescan Environmental Services, Fraser Valley Regional District, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Sunshine Coast Regional District, PGL Group, and multiple private clients. |
