Taara Environmental has recently completed detailed SHIM mapping of much of the City of Abbotsford's Environmental Development Permit Area. Since 2005 staff have been mapping watercourses, wetlands, and ponds throughout several thousand hectares of McKee Peak, Sumas Mountain, Vedder Mountain and various urban green areas. Mapping includes detailed measurements and descriptions of watercourses, fish presence, and rare species occurrences. To date, over 400km of creeks and streams, 100 hectares of wetlands, and about 1,500 occurrences of rare and endangered species have been mapped.
We have completed a variety of other SHIM projects throughout BC and Nunavut that have been used to by clients to determine habitat compensation for mine proposals, as well as projects in BC to model critical Pacific Watershrew habitat for a freeway expansion, determine riparian setbacks, delineate and classify wetlands, and to map and describe previously unmapped areas. Combined, these projects assessed over 200km of watercourses and hundreds of wetlands. Clients included Rescan Environmental Services, Fraser Valley Regional District, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Sunshine Coast Regional District, PGL Group, and multiple private clients.
